:  Dissolvable (HIPS)

MakerBot Dissolvable filament (HIPS) is an excellent speciality filament specifically designed for printing with the MakerBot Replicator 2X Experimental Desktop 3D Printer. As MakerBot Dissolvable filament dissolves in limonene, it is particularly useful for printing support structures on more intricate or complex designed parts, or those parts where support is difficult to remove by hand.

Place the finished print in limonene for 8-24 hours to dissolve the MakerBot Dissolvable filament, leaving in tact the ABS part.

MakerBot Dissolvable is 1.75mm in diameter, of a whitish colour and available in 1kg spools.

Check out Features to view spool size compatibility.

Due to the large variation of monitors, video cards, operating systems & Internet browsers and the effects each has on each other, the colours on this page may not exactly match the materials.

Does MakerBot Dissolvable work with all 3D printers?

MakerBot Dissolvable filament comes on an open spool (see Tech Specs for spool dimensions) in 1.75mm diameter. Whilst specifically designed for use with the MakerBot Replicator 2X Experimental Desktop 3D printer, it can be used for other commercially available leading brands 3D FDM/FFF printers where printing in dissolvable filament is possible. Please check your specific printer set up, specification and operation of your 3D printer for compatibility.

Can MakerBot Dissolvable be used as support material?

Yes, MakerBot Dissolvable is designed to be used as a support material. It is particularly suited for more complex or intricate parts that are printed in ABS, with Dissolvable filament used for support structures.

The printed part can be placed in limonene for 8-24 hours to remove the dissolvable support material, leaving your finished ABS part in tact.
